27th September 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Our inspection visit was discussed and arranged with the practice one day in advance. This was to ensure that we had time to see and speak with the the dentist and dental nurse working at the practice. We were able to speak with three people who were at the practice on the day of our visit and a further three people by telephone afterwards.

People that used the practice told us that they were happy with the quality of treatment they received. They felt they were given enough information about their treatment options and were able to ask all the questions they wanted to. Their comments included: "The dentist has really calmed me down...he knows about my health condition and he tells me to come straight away," "The dentist could see my problem and has referred me for specialist help" and "All the staff are very good."

When we observed one consultation we saw and later people told us that the treatment people needed and any health concerns were discussed with them. People told us they were informed about the cost of their treatment. This meant people were able to make informed decisions about the next steps they wanted to take.

The dental practice was clean and appropriate actions were taken to keep decontamination equipment clean. Staff received training so that they had up to date knowledge and skills in order to ensure that people received safe treatment. There were systems in place to monitor how the practice was run to ensure people received a quality service. This meant some people using the service were asked their views about the service so the provider could use the information to improve.
