We visited Airedale Dental Practice – Castleford. We spoke with six people who used the service, three staff, a dentist and the practice administrator. We reviewed three people’s treatment records.

People we spoke with told us they were consulted about the treatment options and made informed decisions. One person told us: “The dentist always takes time to explain and checks I am happy with the treatment before he goes ahead.”

People were satisfied with the care and treatment received. One person said: "The staff here are very good. They know my (relative) has dementia and make sure she is seen and treated quickly." Records viewed confirmed people's treatment was agreed, consent obtained and treatment plan was in place.

People told us the treatment rooms were clean and staff took steps to protect them from any risk of infection or harm. From discussion with staff and observations we found there were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. The infection prevention and decontamination policies were up to date and comprehensive.

Staff recruitment procedures were in place to ensure staff were safe and suitable to work with people who used the service.

We found that quality assurance systems were in place to ensure high standards of care were provided and maintained in all areas relating to the running of the practice.
