15th February 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

All the people we spoke with said that staff treated them with dignity and respect. One person commented, “staff are friendly. I feel welcome.”

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people’s safety and welfare. We saw that patient care was continually assessed and documented. New patients were asked to complete a confidential medical history questionnaire. This was updated as necessary at each visit.

The provider had a child protection and vulnerable adult protection policy which was reviewed annually. Staff we spoke with demonstrated an understanding of safeguarding children & vulnerable adults and were able to recognise possible signs of abuse.

We saw that the reception area and treatment rooms were clean and clutter free. We spoke with three people and they were all very positive about the cleanliness of the surgery. One person commented, ”the practice is very clean”.

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. The provider had a separate decontamination room where washer-disinfector and autoclave units were used to clean and sterilise dental instruments.

The provider told us that it had introduced an information governance policy to ensure that only authorised personnel had access to patient information. None of the people we spoke with expressed concerns about confidentiality of patient records.
