22nd March 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with three people who use the service and two members of staff. We also observed two people's appointments.

People who use the service told us that they were happy with the treatment provided. Treatment options including, risks, benefits and their cost were explained to people. People were given advice to maintain and improve their oral health. The provider had procedures and equipment in place to deal with foreseeable emergencies.

Everyone we spoke with had no concerns regarding how they were treated. Staff were aware of their legal responsibilities regarding safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. However no member of staff had undertaken training regarding the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and safeguarding vulnerable adults.

All the people we spoke with told us that the premises and equipment was clean and tidy. The provider ensured the environment was clean and equipment was sterilised. Waste was also segregated appropriately.

People who use the service told us that the treatment provided by staff was professional. They said they were confident in all the staff that provided treatment. Staff were appropriately checked by the provider before they were employed to ensure they could treat people who use the service.

The provider had up to date records for staff and people who use the service. The services policies and procedures were appropriate and up to date.
