21st May 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

When we visited Ashbee House Dental Practice we spoke with three patients that used the service, the dentist, the practice manager and two dental nurses. We looked at treatment plans and there were detailed records of completed dental assessments and treatment options discussed with each patient. Patients were pleased with the care and treatment they received and found the staff friendly and polite. Patients told us, "he (the dentist) gives me confidence and the level of care and treatment is exceptional", "very pleased" and "really good I am so pleased".

There was a practice information leaflet available which had detailed guidance for patients. The practice used patient surveys to monitor the quality of the service. At the time of the inspection blank patient surveys and a box for completed forms were available in the waiting room.

Staff were trained in safeguarding adults and child protection. There were procedures for staff to follow to protect children and adults from abuse.

The practice was clean throughout and instruments were cleaned and sterilised effectively. Staff followed infection control and decontamination of instruments procedures to help protect patients from the risk of infection. Patients told us the practice was always clean.

Quality monitoring audits were completed to ensure systems were effective and action was taken where improvements were required. Complaints were addressed and action taken recorded.
