6th March 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We inspected Avondale House dental service on a planned announced inspection. Which meant the service knew we were coming. We informed the service two days prior to our inspection so that people’s dental appointments were not disrupted by the inspection. We were supported throughout the inspection by the registered manager who is also a dentist at the service.

We saw that people who used the service were involved in the planning of their treatment through consultation with the dentists. People were informed of the proposed treatment and had signed to agree to it.

People that used the service at Avondale House were happy with the quality of care being delivered. One person told us, "I travel quite along way to come here because the dentist helps me feel at ease".

Staff told us they enjoyed working at Avondale House. They told us they felt supported and had sufficient training to fulfil their role effectively.

We looked to see if the service was clean and working within current guidelines in relation to infection control. We found the service had systems in place to ensure that good hygiene standards were maintained.

We found that the service had several tools for monitoring the quality of the service being delivered and to work towards continuous improvement.

We found that Avondale House was compliant in the five outcome areas we looked at.
