6th February 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

People told us they were very pleased with the standard of dental service they received and said they were treated with respect. They said all the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We spoke with people who had appointments for treatment on the day we visited. One person told us they had received emergency treatment on one occasion. They could not recall having any trouble booking to be seen the same day. This demonstrated when people needed urgent treatment, it was provided promptly and efficiently.

We looked at patient records on the practice's computer system and also at paper records. We saw new patients had completed a medical history form. This was then updated at subsequent visits. This showed people's care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

We found the physical and mental fitness of people employed had not always been established through a health check or declaration. There were not always two or in some cases any references in place to establish confirmation of satisfactory performance and good character. This meant people could potentially have been placed at risk because the full range of required pre-employment checks had not been carried out.

The practice had patient information readily available, including how to make a complaint. This showed people who used the practice were asked for their views about their care and treatment.
