25th October 2013 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

We carried out an inspection to follow up on outstanding compliance actions which we found during our previous inspection of 30 May 2013.

On the day of our inspection the dental surgery was open for enquiries and emergencies but no patients were seen.

We saw that people were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed.

There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place.

We saw that the provider had systems in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who used the service.

30th May 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Patients we spoke with told us they were happy with the treatment provided by the practice. One patient said, “they’re very good here.” Another patient told us, “although you rely on them (the dentist) doing the right thing, I think the treatment here is very good.” Patients told us they were kept informed about their treatment and the options they had.

We looked at infection control procedures and saw that these did not always follow Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 01-05 guidance. HTM 01-05 is guidance from The Department of Health on decontamination in primary care dental practices.

There was limited evidence that appropriate checks had been undertaken prior to staff commencing work at the practice.

There was limited evidence of actions taken to address shortfalls that had been identified. A legionella risk assessment had been completed in 2012. There was an action plan of work that was required but there was no evidence of actions being taken to address the shortfalls identified in the action plan.
