30th May 2014 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

At the previous inspection in January 2014 we found appropriate pre-employment checks were not always undertaken before staff began work.

The provider sent us an action plan which had been completed following our inspection. This included the action they were going to take to meet the regulation and the timescale within which this would be achieved.

We returned to the practice on 30 May 2014 to review whether the provider had made improvements. We found improvements had been made in this area. We spoke with the practice manager and a dental practitioner who was also the practice owner.

We found staff had the relevant qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience to carry out their role and were registered with the relevant professional body where appropriate.

We saw the provider had a policy in place for the recruitment of staff. The policy contained effective processes to ensure people were not discriminated against during recruitment.

We saw staff employed within the practice had been through recruitment checks prior to commencing employment. All of the staff employed to work at the practice had been subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

All of this meant people were cared for by skilled, experienced and qualified staff who had been subject to appropriate pre-employment checks.

We spoke with four people who were complimentary about the practice. One person stated, “It’s a really friendly, professional environment.” Another person stated, “The whole family come here and we wouldn’t go anywhere else.”

We found that people who used the service were provided with information about the treatments available.

Treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. People were complimentary about the treatment they received. They described the treatment as, “excellent” and “good.”

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. People told us that the practice was "spotless."

People were complimentary about the attributes of staff. One person informed us, “They recruit good staff, everyone is very personable. They have a very caring ethos.” However, we found that appropriate pre-employment checks were not always undertaken before staff began work.

There was an effective system in place to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.
