4th December 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with four patients, the dentist, the dental nurse, one of the hygienists, and the registered manager. The staff and patients are part of the Bruderhof Community of approximately 200 people and lived at Beech Grove.

Patients told us that they were happy with the dental care they received from the practice. Patients told us that they were treated with kindness and respect, were involved in their treatment, had their treatment choices explained to them, and that staff treated them in a way that put them at ease. One patient told us “You could not receive better care anywhere else.” Another patient commented “I cannot fault this service; they are always here when I need them.”

We observed treatment sessions for two patients and found that patient’s oral and medical health was comprehensively assessed. For example, checks were carried out for tooth decay, gum health and problems, jaw and face examinations and oral cancer checks. Patient’s medical information including medicines they were taking were kept up to date.

We toured the practice and found it to be clean and tidy. The practice had effective systems in place to reduce the risk and the spread of infection. We found that infection control procedures were in line with current guidelines from the Department of Health.

Staff told us that they felt supported by the Community and their dental colleagues. Staff were given the opportunity to take appropriate training to enhance their knowledge and to complete their continuing professional development commitments.

All aspects of the day to day running of the practice were monitored. This system had been reviewed and updated at regular intervals. The provider told us and we saw that regular audits and risk assessments had been carried out to ensure that the practice could evidence and deliver a consistent quality service and make improvements where necessary.
