7th November 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We carried out this inspection to check on the treatment of people. Following the inspection we conducted telephone interviews with four people who used the service. On the day of the inspection we spoke with three dental nurses and two dentists. The clinical manager and area manager from the provider's head office was also present to support the process.

The practice consisted of a reception/waiting area, five treatment rooms, a decontamination area and two toilet facilities. The practice was being refurbished which when finished will increase the treatment facilities, provide an extra toilet facility to meet the disability discrimination act requirements, a ramp at the entrance to improve access to the practice and a treatment room specifically designed to meet the needs of people who have reduced mobility.

People told us that their consent was given before they received treatment. One person we spoke with said, "The dentist always asks if it is okay to proceed".

Records showed that people's treatment needs were recorded in their treatment plan. One person said, "I am always made to feel comfortable".

We found that there was an infection control system in place to reduce potential risk of cross infection.

Staff we spoke with told us that appropriate checks were carried out to ensure they were suitable to work with vulnerable people.

We found that the provider had a complaints process in place to allow people to share their views.
