9th January 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We visited the Severn Drive dental practice on Wednesday 9 January 2013. We met with the dentist and a dental nurse who worked at this practice. We also met with a practice manager and a dental nurse who worked at another local Bhandal practice and who helped to provide us with information and evidence during this inspection.

We spoke with four people registered with this dental practice. They told us that they had been involved in decisions regarding their treatment. One person said, "They tell you everything you need to know".

We were shown patient records showing details of examinations undertaken. People told us, "You get a full examination they are very thorough”. "I have been told that I brush my teeth too hard, they make suggestions to help you take care of your teeth".

We saw that emergency medication and equipment was available and ready for use. Staff had received training to manage emergency situations.

The dental practice was clean and clutter free on the day of our visit. Records showed the cleaning regimes followed by dental staff. Decontamination practices ensured that used dental equipment was suitably cleaned and sterilised.

Staff records showed that staff received regular training to enable them to keep up to date with current working practices. Appraisals and regular staff meetings helped to ensure that staff received support to be able to do their job.

Regular satisfaction surveys were completed and positive results received.
