12th September 2013 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

We visited Binfield Road Dental Practice to follow up on concerns regarding hygiene and infection control. We found the service had reviewed and changed its practices and systems to mitigate potential risks of infection to patients. Staff said they actively used audits to assess the environment and hygiene and infection control practices.

11th July 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with four patients, two dental professionals and a dentist during this inspection.

Patients said they were involved in making decisions about their dental care, and were provided with choices on treatment. They said they were given information on their oral health. Patients were able to make appointments when they needed including emergency appointments.

Treatment plans contained up to date information on medical conditions, medications taken by patients, previous treatment and assessments of patients' oral health. Patients said they were satisfied with the care they received. One person said the service was "absolutely excellent."

The practice was clean and there were systems in place to reduce the risk of health care associated infection. However the service's audit tool was not used effectively. The most recent audit did not identify potential risks we identified with the practice's decontamination process.

We saw training records and they indicated clinical staff met their requirements of registration with the General Dental Council. We saw records that indicated staff were trained to provide safe and effective treatment.
