Boston Dental Centre had a beauty therapy room at its premises. The procedures undertaken in the therapy room were not required to be regulated by the Care Quality Commission. The evidence in this report is for the dental practice.

During our inspection we spoke with six members of staff and seven patients who used the service as well as the registered manager/ practice manager.

The patients we spoke with were complimentary about the way staff interacted with them and the treatment they received. One patient told us, “They told me step by step what I needed to have done and gave me choices.” Patients also told us they were respected by staff.

The practice had systems in place to reduce the risk of infection. Patients told us dentists and nurses always washed their hands and used masks and gloves whilst they were receiving treatment.

Patients told us they were confident in the staffs’ abilities and said they thought they were competent. One patient told us, “They seem to be very knowledgeable about things. ”Staff felt fully supported by the registered manager. However, we found dentists had not received regular documented appraisals.

Patients were asked for their views and comments about the service. There were systems in place to make sure risks to patients were identified and managed effectively.
