20th June 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with four people who used the service. They spoke positively about the care and support they received. One person told us "I have a lot of confidence in my dentist. He makes me feel relaxed before my treatment." Another person said “I am always nervous when I come and see the dentist. The staff here put me at ease. They have a lovely manner with the patients."

People experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights. People told us they gave a full medical history when they joined the practice and were regularly asked for updates. They said the dentist also asked about any changes to their medical status or their medication at the start of each consultation.

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. The practice maintained an infection control policy, which clearly identified an infection prevention and control lead. Audits of the infection control and sterilisation processes were undertaken regularly.

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard. Records demonstrated staff undertook continuing professional development.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received. There was evidence that learning from incidents and investigations took place and appropriate changes were implemented.
