29th April 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Patients told us they were treated with respect and dignity. We spoke with two patients who spoke favourably of the dental practice. They told us they were treated with respect and felt involved in their care and that they were given appropriate information by the dentist, which enabled them to make choices about their treatment. Comments such as, “They make you feel welcome and they explain the risks to you” and “I have recommended the dentist to a friend” summed up the views of patients we spoke with. The patients confirmed they had no concerns about their dentist but were confident to speak to the dentist if they felt they needed to.

There were systems in place to ensure that people were protected from abuse and to ensure they received the care they needed, however we were concerned that staff did not have any awareness of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. The practice had effective infection control policies and procedures in place and patient records were kept securely and safely.
