13th February 2014 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

At the last inspection in June 2013 we found Brunswick Square Dental Practice non-compliant with Regulation 11 of the Health and Social Care Act (HSCA) 2008. This was because vulnerable patients were not protected from the risk of abuse. At this inspection we found that the provider had taken the steps they needed to achieve compliance with Regulation 11 of the Health and Social Care Act (HSCA) 2008.

During our inspection we spoke with three staff members, these included two dentists and a dental nurse.

At this inspection we found that patients were now being protected from the risk of abuse because staff were competently trained. The service had a robust safeguarding policy in place and the service had taken clear steps to ensure that staff and people understood safeguarding and the signs of abuse.

5th June 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During our inspection we spoke with both dentists the practice manager, two dental nurses, the receptionist and five patients.

We found that patients were involved in the planning of their care and treatment and were consulted about the treatment options available to them.

We looked at documentation including patients' treatment records, which showed the practice was meeting individual needs and respecting patients' choice.

Patients we spoke with told us their treatment including all available options had been fully explained and discussed with them, in private, before any work was undertaken. They were satisfied with the care and treatment they had received. One person said, “I have been attending the practice for five years. I consider it to be excellent”.

We found the service was hygienic, clean and followed appropriate guidance in relation to infection control.

Patients told us they felt safe and were well cared for at the practice. None of the people spoken with had ever had cause to raise a concern. We found there were systems in place to protect children. However the same level of protection and understanding was needed with regard to vulnerable adults.

There were effective systems in place to assess and monitor the service and to effectively deal with complaints.
