5th February 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Patients told us that the dentist explained their treatment in language which they understood and were always given time to consider their decisions.

The dentist told us that they intended to retire in April 2014 and their dental nurse had also recently retired, who had not yet been replaced. Guidance from the General Dental Council advises dentists that they should work with another appropriately trained person at all times when treating patients in a dental setting. The dentist told us that they would stop treating patients until they had recruited a dental nurse.

Patients praised the quality of treatment provided by the dentist. One person said, “He is truly first class, not just in what he does but how he explains it to you.” Another said, “He’s been doing my teeth for over 30 years and I’ve always had brilliant service.”

People who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening. Patients told us that they trusted the dentist completely

People were cared for in a hygienic environment and received their treatment in a surgery which had been designed to minimise the risk of infection.

The provider had a system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of the service that people received.
