21st August 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We phoned the practice to give two working days' notice of our visit. We spoke with three people who used the service. We toured the premises, spoke with five staff, and the practice manager. We looked at documents relating to the running of the practice.

People told us the staff were “very supportive” Another person told us that it was the “the best practice and treatment, everything is explained to you and the staff are very nice.”

We found that there were systems in place to keep the practice clean and hygienic including effective decontamination of instruments in accordance with guidelines.

Training and support were provided to maintain a safe service and regular checks were made on machines and systems to ensure this was maintained.

We met five people who use this service, either before or following their treatment, three of whom were accompanied by a relative.

People were all positive about the service. They said that their dentist had explained the treatment they would need, and given good advice about dental health. We saw that people were updating their own medical record while they waited.

Parents said that the dentist had been friendly and made their young child feel comfortable. Two people told us they had been very nervous, but had found that their dentist and nurse had been reassuring. “I won’t be putting off my next appointment”, said one relieved person. People also said that the receptionist staff were helpful and patient.

People said they found the digital Xray service very useful – the dentist could show them what the problem was, which helped them feel involved in their own diagnosis and treatment.

The premises were clean and bright throughout.
