2nd April 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

One patient who used the service told us: "The dentist tells me exactly what is happening, they always discuss alternative treatments and options. I have had a lot of treatment on my teeth with different dentists over the years, so I know how good they are".

We were told that staff were trained in dealing with medical emergencies and saw evidence of staff training certificates. The clinic had emergency equipment available including a defibrillator, oxygen and emergency drugs. We were told that staff also had regular emergency training for cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

One member of staff said "We do go to great lengths to explain things to patients to make sure they fully understand before they consent to treatment".

The practice had its own decontamination room, the manager talked us through the process and showed us the record of daily and weekly checks which had taken place. Instruments were decontaminated by the use of autoclaves that were situated in the decontamination room.

We spoke with four members of the team who all confirmed that they were provided with opportunities for personal development and training. They felt supported by the team and the provider.

The practice had a robust and effective systems in place to monitor the quality of the service provided. A number of audits were routinely undertaken.
