25th April 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We visited Oasis Dental Practice – Pontefract. We spoke with four people who use the service, three staff and the manager. We reviewed five people’s treatment records.

People we spoke with told us they were consulted about the treatment options and made informed decisions. One person said: “I came for an emergency appointment. I told them what the problem was, they explained everything to me and made me feel at ease.”

People were satisfied with the care and treatment received. One person said: "All my family come here. They are very good and they don’t rush." Records viewed confirmed people's treatment was agreed, consent obtained and treatment plan was in place.

People told us the treatment rooms were clean and staff took steps to protect them from any risk of infection or harm. From discussion with staff and observations we found there were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. The infection prevention and decontamination policies were up to date and comprehensive.

Records viewed showed that staff had the relevant qualifications and experience to deliver the services provided. From our observations and discussions with staff we found that there were sufficient numbers of appropriate staff to meet the needs of people using the service.

There was an effective complaints procedure in place. People told us they were comfortable about raising any concerns they had and said they felt confident they would be dealt with.
