20th January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We met with the practice manager and four other staff on duty at the surgery. We looked round the premises and examined records and documents relating to the running of the business. We spoke with five people who used the service during our visit.

The practice provided a service to approximately 8,000 people and employed five dentists and three hygienists. This meant there was a wide range of treatments available.

All respondents told us that they found all of the staff both friendly and helpful. All said they had been fully involved in decisions about treatment and they had been given full information about proposed treatments and the options available. One person told us “They always explain everything to me so I can understand what I am consenting to.”

We saw that the practice was well organised. We saw evidence that up to date policies provided staff with guidance on good practice. The practice manager had ensured that the team understood policies as they were introduced.

All the people who spoke with us said they felt safe and confident with their dentist. Staff had been guided on how to implement the child protection policy. We found that both clinical and communal areas were clean and tidy, with systems in place to maintain them.
