6th February 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We observed two people’s appointments and spoke with four people by telephone. People spoke positively about the whole team at the practice and described it as, "fantastic". One person told us they had always been scared of the dentist but that, "I know I can get through it with them”.

People told us that their dentists explained clearly what they were doing and we heard this happen during the appointments we observed. During both appointments the dentists asked questions and explained what the patients’ options for treatment were. One person told us, “He talked me though it the whole way” and another said, “Everything is very well explained”.

There was medication, a defibrillator and oxygen available for certain medical emergencies and staff were trained to know what to do if a person became unwell at the practice.

The practice was clean and people we spoke with told us they thought standards of cleanliness were very good. There were suitable arrangements for the cleaning, sterilising and storing of instruments. Staff described these procedures to us confidently.

The dental team were qualified and maintained their continuous professional development (CPD) as required by the General Dental Council (GDC). The practice had arrangements for monitoring the quality of the service including audits of patients’ dental records. The practice had suitable arrangements for assessing and reducing any risks to people using the service, or to the staff.
