13th February 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We visited the practice on the 13 February 2014. We spoke with ten people who used the service and they told us they were satisfied with the service. They all told us they were given enough information about different treatment options and they were asked to update their medical history before commencement of treatment. We saw from a recent record audit that people were issued with treatment plans and were asked for their consent before being provided with treatment.

Several people told us they could not always get an appointment at the time of their choosing and they had to wait for their scheduled appointment. Most people said they saw the same dentist at each visit but some people said that a number of dentists had left over the last few years and one person said they had not been satisfied with the treatment they had received from a dentist who had since left. We examined five people’s dental records and record audits and saw that records of treatment were completed. We reviewed the complaints log and saw that complaints were recorded and actions taken to resolve the complaint. We looked at two staff records and saw that the provider had adequate staff records in terms of recruitment, induction and ensuring the professional training and development of staff was up to date. This ensured that staff had the necessary skills for their role.

There were adequate measures in place for the protection of vulnerable adults and children. Staff had undertaken training and there was clear guidance for staff to follow if they believed a person was at risk from abuse.

There were good infection control procedures in place to reduce the risk of infection and we observed staff adhering to the procedures.
