17th May 2013 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

When we visited the service on 7 February 2013, we had concerns about how staff recruitment was being managed. This was because the full range of required recruitment checks had not been obtained for each member of staff. We set a compliance action for the provider to improve practice.

We returned to the service on 17 May 2013 to check whether improvements had been made. We saw all required documents were now in place. The manager was aware these checks would be necessary for any future staff recruited at the practice.

We were satisfied improvements had been made to protect the safety and welfare of people using the service.

7th February 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with four people who had received treatment on the day of our visit. They said they were satisfied with the service they had received. People told us they were seen promptly in emergencies. They said there was flexibility in appointment times. We saw staff at the practice were friendly and helpful to people. We found there was positive feedback about people's experiences from a recent patient survey.

We found appropriate records were being kept of people's treatment. People had signed to consent to treatment. Parents or guardians had signed on behalf of children. The practice was equipped to deal with emergencies and staff had received training in basic life support.

Effective infection control practices were in place. Staff had received training on infection control and thorough decontamination procedures were used.

We found people were being put at risk of harm due to ineffective recruitment procedures. There was no recruitment policy to provide guidance on which checks and clearances were required.

Records were accurate and kept up to date. We found confidential records were kept secure to prevent unauthorised access to sensitive information.

In this report the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a Registered Manager on our register at the time.
