9th January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We gave the practice three working days’ notice of our intended visit. We spoke with the dentist, the dental nurse, receptionist and people who used the service.

We saw that opportunity was provided for patients to feedback about the treatments that they had received. They also were involved in how the practice was run.

One person told us “the dentist is a “magician” I have not been to a dentist for 14 years, he is great.” Another told us “he is very gentle and very patient.”

We found that there were systems in place to protect children and vulnerable adults and to raise alerts if there were any concerns about people’s safety and well-being.

We found that the treatment rooms and instruments were kept clean and hygienic and that regular checks were carried out to ensure the continued safe delivery of the service. Staff told us, “We are very happy and very lucky to work here.”

1st February 2012 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke to four people who use this service. People said they were “very pleased” with the service, and some had been attending this practice for many years. One said, “Absolutely fantastic”, another, “They are good with explanations”.

People said that the dentist discussed possible choices in treatment. One person gave the example of having been given the choice between a filling and a crown, with the different costs and benefits explained.

One person told us they were given advice about oral health; “Constant nagging about looking after my teeth!” they said. There was not a separate hygienist; the dentist does descaling, which some people said they found convenient.

One person told us that they were there to support a frail elderly relative who was having treatment. At the previous appointment, the dentist had called them in because their relative had been too anxious to listen to the explanation, and this person was able to give support. They were impressed by the dentist’s thoughtfulness.

After a small step at the entrance, there was level access throughout the surgery. Doorways were narrow and the toilet is not accessible for wheelchairs.

We found that though the premises were not spacious, they were kept clean and tidy. People felt at ease and were well informed.
