Cedar House is a private clinic which provides a range of cosmetic surgical and non-surgical treatments. There are two staff employed at Cedar House, the registered manager and a consultant who is the nominated individual. The Consultant is a Doctor registered with the General Medical Committee.

The premises were clean and well maintained and provided parking, access to the ground floor and toilets for people whose disability restricted their mobility.

The people who we talked with all told us how good the service was. One person told us that all the staff were "just lovely people" another told us that all the staff made them feel "comfortable" and "empowered". All the people we spoke with told us that they had a thorough assessment prior to any treatment being offered. People told us that they were able to exercise choice and never felt under pressure to accept further treatments.

Care records were well organised and comprehensive and provided information to ensure people received safe effective care. Risk assessments were carried out ensuring risks were identified and action taken to minimise risk. The balance between risk and benefits was made explicit to people.

The consultant was qualified for the role they undertook. They had attended a wide range of conferences and training events to ensure that their service was informed by best practice and research.

People spoke very highly of the care and treatment they had received and of the staff that worked at the Clinic. They told us they were always made welcome and were treated with dignity and respect. Comments included, “I was overjoyed to find this Clinic and I’m very pleased with my treatment, they are brilliant” and “I couldn’t dream of faulting it, they are perfect”.

Everyone we spoke with told us they had received a thorough consultation. They said they were advised of the risks, benefits and costs for treatment. They told us they were given time to ask questions and go away and think about their procedure before choosing to proceed. People said if treatment was considered not to be in their best interests they were advised of this.

The premises were fit for purpose, well maintained and easily accessible. People told us the clinic was in the “perfect” location, out of town, free to park and discreet. People said they always found the Clinic “immaculate” and decorated to a high standard.

People considered staff were friendly and competent to safely and effectively carry out their work. The consultant was qualified and had received appropriate and continuous professional development to ensure the maintenance and development of their skills and knowledge.

People had access to a complaints procedure. They told us they had not had cause to complain but were confident any concerns would be listened to and appropriately addressed.

We visited the Cedar House Clinic on two occasions as part of our review of the service. Over the two visits we met with everyone who worked at the clinic and with three people who had received services. We also made telephone contact with five people who had used the service in order to gather their views of the service provided.

Everyone we contacted spoke very positively about their experiences. The staff, including the registered manager and the responsible person were described as being, “ultimate professionals”. People felt safe and confident in the treatments that they received.

People felt involved and consulted in relation to how they received their treatment and we were told that treatment was responsive to people’s individual needs. The aim of the service, according to the clinic’s statement of purpose, is to, “make treatment as comfortable and convenient as possible”.

Care was individualised and delivered around people’s assessed needs. People told us that they were asked for a full medical history during their initial consultation. We were shown the clinic's assessment form and were told by the manager that they carry out an in-depth assessment of people’s needs prior to all treatments. People also said that they had access to prompt and effective after care

Everyone we spoke with told us that they had their views and experiences taken into account. Everyone we spoke with had completed a quality assurance questionnaire.

Treatments were carried out by a person who is highly qualified and experienced. Three people told us that this was one of the main reasons for choosing the clinic.
