2nd September 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Our visit was discussed and arranged with the practice in advance. This was to ensure that we had time to see and speak to staff working at the practice, as well as people registered with the practice. We spoke with one of the dentist’s, the practice manager and three other staff working at practice, the receptionist and dental nurses.

During this inspection we spoke with three families who used the service. After our inspection visit, we spoke by telephone with six people who were registered with the practice and asked them about their experiences of the service. People who attended appointments at the time of our visit were mainly children and adolescents under the age of eighteen. Both parents and children felt that their treatments were fully explained to them. Their comments included, "They gave me very clear explanations of what my treatment involved”.

Staff received a range of training so that they had up to date knowledge and skills in order to treat people safely when they attended the practice.

People told us that the practice was clean and tidy and that they had no concerns about hygiene. We found that the provider had effective infection control procedures in place. This meant the risk of infection for people who used the service was minimised.

There were systems in place that ensured that people who used the service were asked their views about the service. This meant that the provider could use the information to make improvements.
