People gave their verbal or written consent to have treatment. Parental consent was obtained if children were to be treated. There were arrangements in place to assess people's capacity to make the decision to have treatment, but this had never been required.

Staff carried out various tests, investigations, treatments and minor surgery at the clinic. Where people were required to attend for follow-up appointments, their treatment plans were discussed with them. People told us that the service they received was "great". One person said that they had a "very good experience" and described the staff as "friendly" and "welcoming".

There were policies on safeguarding vulnerable adults and child protection in place that included the contact details for the local social services department. Staff had attended training on safeguarding vulnerable adults and child protection and knew what to do in the event of concerns for a person's welfare.

Staff received appropriate professional development that included attending training and updates on basic life support, safeguarding vulnerable adults and child protection.

Satisfaction surveys were carried out at least annually. Analysis of the latest survey in September 2012 showed that all respondents were satisfied with the service that they received. Clinical audits were carried out and we saw an example of a minor surgery audit that was carried between January and July 2012.
