28th February 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent. The provider had in place a policy on consent. We spoke with four people receiving treatment on the day of our inspection. They all said that they felt fully informed about their treatment and agreed to any treatment they received.

During our inspection we asked people visiting the dental practice what their experience was like. Comments from people included "I have been coming here for many years and always made to feel very welcome” and “We have a very good dentist here” and “We are very happy with this dental practice.”

All the people we spoke with told us the dental practice was very clean and that staff wore protective clothing, such as masks and gloves. During our inspection the dental nurse demonstrated the arrangements for decontamination and sterilisation of equipment from start to finish.

Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work. We viewed the recruitment procedure and two staff files of recently recruited members of staff. The two staff files contained the relevant pre-employment checks which included enhanced police checks.

We viewed the complaints policy that was on display in the reception area. People we spoke with told us that they were very happy with the service and had no complaints. When asked, people said they would speak with the dentist direct and felt confident that the issue would be addressed.
