8th May 2018 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We carried out this announced inspection on 8 May 2018 under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. We planned the inspection to check whether the registered provider was meeting the legal requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated regulations. The inspection was led by a CQC inspector who was supported by a specialist dental adviser.

To get to the heart of patients’ experiences of care and treatment, we always ask the following five questions:

• Is it safe?

• Is it effective?

• Is it caring?

• Is it responsive to people’s needs?

• Is it well-led?

These questions form the framework for the areas we look at during the inspection.

During our inspection we spoke with two people who use the service, two dentists, the practice manager and a dental nurses. People told us that the dental clinic was always clean and they were given emergency appointments when needed. One patient said,” l have been coming here for years with my children which says a lot about the care we receive”. We saw responses from a satisfaction questionnaire, comments included,” the staff are excellent and the receptionist is very courteous and helpful”.

People told us that they had been involved in decisions relating to their care and treatment planning and were given all the necessary information to reach a decision.

We noted that people received care in a clean environment as all necessary infection control procedures were adhered to.

Staff had sufficient training to provide care. The provider had a good system in place to record and follow up any complaints and people confirmed that they were aware of the complaints policy.
