7th January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

People who used the service told us they had been fully informed of their treatment options and had received a plan that explained what treatment would be carried out. Patients who used the service told us, “Staff always check my medical history” and “The dentist asks me about any changes in medication that I am taking.”

We observed the receptionist greeting patients at the reception area by their first name and treated patients with courtesy and respect. During our inspection we observed patients interacting with the receptionist following their visit to arrange a further appointment in the future.

Staff used autoclaves to sterilise the instruments to ensure the correct temperature for sterilisation was reached. We observed regular checks of the machines had taken place.

Staff we spoke with told us, “I feel a lot more supported in my role now and job satisfaction has increased as a result of more training and development opportunities have become available” and “I feel well supported by management even form a personal perspective should the need arise.”

There was evidence that people who used the practice had completed end of treatment questionnaires, to enable the provider to develop the service. We saw evidence that the provider took account of these comments in their monthly practice meetings to improve the service.
