2nd December 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We found dental care was provided according to people's assessed needs. People signed consent forms prior to any dental treatment being carried out. The dentist was providing a safe service as the dental staff had spoken with people to check if there were any changes in their medical condition from the previous treatment and agreed the treatment to be provided.

We spoke with three people who told us they were satisfied with the service. One person told us, “They booked me in quickly for an appointment and cured my toothache.” Another person told us, “Everyone is friendly and helpful, I am happy with the care.” The service had a surgery on the ground floor for ease of access to all people. The service acted in a responsive manner as it had emergency treatment appointments available for booking on the day and we saw one person take advantage of this situation.

The medical records were stored on a computer and inside a named treatment card for the protection of confidentiality. We spoke with three staff and they were all aware from their training of the safeguarding procedure for children and vulnerable adults. There was a complaints procedure in place along with satisfaction surveys. The service had a robust recruitment process in operation and was well led as the policies of the service were all up to date and available for staff.
