5th August 2013 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

We visited Dentalcare Berinsfield because during our visit in February 2013 we found the practice had not completed a full range of checks on staff before they began work. The practice had told us that they had introduced procedures to ensure all the appropriate checks were completed before staff started work. We met with the practice manager during our visit. We did not speak with patients as it was not relevant to the purpose of the visit.

We looked at eleven staff employment files. We saw that the practice had made significant improvement to ensure relevant checks were carried out before new staff could start work. There was evidence that procedures were in place that highlighted any outstanding documentation or checks required. We found the practice manager had followed this procedure when a new member of staff had been recruited in June 2013.

30th January 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with four people who had received treatment on the day of our visit. They all said they were happy and satisfied with the care and treatment they had received. They told us that they were given sufficient information about their treatment and costs. They said on each visit any changes to their medical history were checked. They commented that appointment times were flexible and their appointments were not rushed. We saw that medical records were well maintained and people's information were kept up to date and reviewed. We observed that appointment times were staggered to ensure that people were given adequate time for appointments.

People said staff were approachable, polite, welcoming, respectful, caring and reassuring. They felt that their privacy and confidentiality were promoted. We observed positive interactions between staff and people using the service.

People told us they were aware of the complaints procedure. They said if they had any concerns or complaints they would raise them with the practice manager.

People said the surgery was kept clean. We saw that systems were in place to promote this and prevent risks of cross infection.

We spoke to the practice manager, three dentists and three nurses during the inspection. We saw that staff were suitably qualified and trained to deliver care. We saw that improvements were required to recruitment practices to safeguard people.
