People who used the service told us they understood the care and treatment choices available. Fees were explained to new patients when they telephoned the practice and were again discussed in person prior to treatment along with treatment risks and benefits. One person told us, “the dentist explains things clearly and in lay persons terms.”

We looked at three randomly selected patient records. The provider talked us through these records and was able to demonstrate how patient progress was continually assessed and documented.

The provider demonstrated an understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. They were able to describe possible symptoms of abuse such as personality changes and/or physical marks.

In the treatment room, we were told that the provider wore personal protective equipment such as disposable aprons, eye protection, masks and gloves. We were also told that between each patient, a number of infection control measure were undertaken such as disinfection of surfaces. These measures helped ensure that people were treated in a clean and hygienic environment.

We saw that the provider’s paper patient records contained appropriate, personalised information such as a penicillin or latex allergy. This meant that the provider had accurate records to help identify and manage risks in relation to providing dental care.
