13th February 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

People told us they had no problems making appointments and the practice always saw them in the event of an emergency. We heard people being offered appointments over the telephone by reception staff. They were friendly and polite and offered people a choice of dates and times convenient for them.

One person told us, “The care received is fantastic.” We looked at four patient records which were in paper format. Records detailed examination findings by the dentist and proposed treatments and discussion of costs.

The practice had a policy in place in relation to child protection which was dated November 2012. We looked at this policy and saw no contact numbers for the local safeguarding team. We saw there were no safeguarding vulnerable adult policy and procedure in place.

People expressed confidence in the staff abilities. One person said, “We are planning on moving away from the area, but I will still travel back to be treated by my dentist.”

Members of staff received appropriate professional development, and were supported to obtain further qualifications. One staff told us the practice had paid for their dental course and they are continually supported in their learning.

We took a tour of the practice and observed it was clean and well maintained. People spoke to us about cleanliness. One person told us, “I can’t rate it highly enough. You can eat off the floor!”
