11th December 2012 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

People who use the service were given sufficient information about their care and treatment options. They were shown photos of likely treatments and written quotes for costs. There was a range of information available at the practice and on the website. Information from the most recent feedback surveys we saw showed that people were happy with the information they received about their options. Typical comments were “the dentist took plenty of time to explain my treatment” and “the practice is friendly and professional”. People were given copies of their plans.

The environment was clean and hygienic on the day of the inspection. There was a separate decontamination area with clearly divided areas for clean and dirty instruments. Staff told us people said they liked the way this area was laid out (behind glass next to the treatment area) because they could see that the practice was kept clean.

The practice was staffed by a dentist, a dental nurse and a hygienist. Staff were trained in basic life support, infection control and attended other courses as identified in their appraisals. The dentist kept up to date with their continuing professional development. Feedback surveys showed that people who use felt safe and well treated by competent professionals.

People were given information about how to complain if they needed to and there was information displayed at the practice.
