13th December 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During our inspection we spoke with two people using the service and three staff, including a dentist and two dental nurses. We viewed four clinical records and four staff files. The people we spoke with were satisfied with the treatment they had received so far. One person said "this is my second visit and it has been a very good experience." Another said "they are very open and explain things in full, overall a very good service."

People said that treatment options and costs were explained to them in detail and were asked for their consent before treatment commenced. People's medical conditions and social habits were taken into consideration when planning their treatments and advice given about their oral health where necessary. Arrangements were in place to deal with foreseeable emergencies including an evacuation plan in the event of a fire and procedures to deal with medical emergencies.

The surgery rooms were clean, well equipped and maintained and infection control guidelines were being followed. Staff told us that they had received adequate training to meet people's needs and were supported to improve their skills and knowledge.

Systems were in place to monitor the quality of service provided including satisfaction surveys, audits and risk assessments and some improvements to the service had been made as a result.
