7th March 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

When we visited this service on 7 March 2013, we looked at the premises and spoke with the dentist, a dental nurse and a receptionist about what it was like to work at the service. We spoke with two people in the waiting room and five patients by telephone the next day. All of the people we spoke with told us they really liked the service. One person said, “What really impresses me is the lovely, calm atmosphere at the surgery.” Another person said, “I think we are very lucky to have him as a dentist.”

People told us they felt well informed and understood the choice of treatments available and the costs. Information about people’s treatments, allergies and important medical information was recorded in their files.

We saw the premises were clean. The dental nurse explained how staff followed the department of health guidance to prevent and control infection. One person we spoke with said, “I am impressed with their hygiene, the gloves, aprons, masks.”

People told us, "The staff are very friendly and pleasant." Staff told us they had regular training and one to one sessions with the dentist. We saw the provider kept a record of staff’s training, and held regular team meetings so all staff knew about any changes and actions they should take.

The provider has a quality assurance system, which included asking people for feedback about their experiences. They checked that staff kept accurate patient records and took the right actions to maintain hygiene standards.
