We spoke with one patient who attended the centre for treatment and followed their treatment through the centre. We also spoke with the registered manager, three radiographers, patient administration officer, a dosimetrist and the lead physicist to help us assess whether the service provided was caring, safe, responsive and well led.

The patient we spoke with told us the reception staff were very helpful and had offered them appointment times for all of their treatment dates which suited them. One person using the service told us, "The staff here are excellent. They have explained my treatment to me in great detail.” They added “nothing is too much trouble. I feel I can ask any questions I need to and they will be answered.”

Patients can be confident that appropriate analyses of diagnostic tests and assessments were undertaken by qualified staff in a way which follows guidelines from relevant experts and professional bodies.

The equipment used was appropriately maintained and checked which ensured it was safe to be used and compliant with all relevant safety regulations. Patients were cared for, supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff in the specialist field of radiotherapy.

The provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people using the service and others.

28th February 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During our inspection we spoke with one person who was attending the centre for treatment. The person said “the staff are very kind and caring.

We found that people had consented and been involved in decisions about their treatment. The electronic treatment records showed effective, safe and appropriate personalised treatment and care to people through coordinated assessment, planning and delivery carried out by a multi disciplinary team. One person said “I was given a choice of treatment and given time to consider.”

The centre was clean and tidy and regularly monitored to prevent and control infections. All staff had received up to date infection control training.

We found that training was available and provided by the provider. Staff were supported to enable them to meet the needs of people who received treatment at the centre.

Information about how people could raise concerns was accessible to people in the centre. Staff told us they were aware of the complaints policy and procedures.
