16th January 2014 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

We checked to see if the provider had made improvements following our previous inspection on 24 July 2013 in relation to cleanliness and infection control and records. At our inspection on 16 January 2014 we found that the provider had made the required improvements. We found that dental instruments were appropriately decontaminated and staff wore appropriate personal protective equipment. We found that treatment rooms were well segregated into clean and dirty areas and cleaning equipment such as mops were appropriately stored. The provider had appropriate arrangements in place for the management of records including treatment files and staff records.

24th July 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

The people we spoke with had recently received treatment from the dentist. Each person told us that they were happy with the care and treatment they had received. One person said it was as “good as gold”. Another person said it was “homely” and “comfortable”. People told us that staff were polite and they made people who were anxious feel relaxed. People said they were given enough information regarding their treatment and their choices were respected. People told us their privacy and dignity was maintained during their treatment and they felt the surgery was visibly clean.

We found that people were provided enough information to allow them make informed decisions about their treatments. People were involved in planning their care, and they were provided with treatment options. The provider had arrangements in place to deal with foreseeable emergencies. We found that staff knew about abuse and how to report any concerns. However, we found some shortfalls in infection control procedures and record keeping.
