27th November 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We invited patients to speak with us during our visit yet no patients wished to speak with us. We were able to spend some time observing how patients were dealt with in the reception area. We observed patients being dealt with in a friendly and respectful manner. We noted that when exact appointment times elapsed, patients were reassured that they would be seen and apologies were given by staff for this. We were able to see the last patient’s questionnaire summary from 2013. Comments were positive and no concerns were raised by patients. Suggestions for improvement related to facilities in the reception room and to issues of parking which were beyond the practice's control.

We saw that the practice endeavoured to give people as much information in relation to health promotion as possible. We found that patients had their health and welfare promoted by the policies of the practice. People were protected from harm and were treated in a clean and hygienic environment. Patients had the information they needed if they wished to raise concerns about their treatment. Clinical notes revealed that patients were involved in their treatment and were given appropriate advice to maintain their dental health.

The staff team we spoke with considered that they felt supported in their role. They received training when necessary as part of their role. The lack of evidence of recorded of supervision and appraisal sessions for staff meant that they were not fully supported in their role .
