24th January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

When people first attended the service, following examination they would discuss their treatment options and the costs with staff. We spoke to one person using the service who told us "Everything was explained to me... including the payment plan". We looked at 20 patient comment cards submitted between September and December 2013. In this people commented that staff were "very helpful" and "patient".

When people first attended they were asked to complete a medical history questionnaire to ensure that it was safe for them to undergo treatment. The person we spoke with told us that the risks and benefits of treatment were explained clearly and that she had discussed her medical history with the dentist. In the patient feedback people described the service as "great" and said the dentist was "very good". Staff received training in what to do in a medical emergency and emergency drugs and equipment were available.

People were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed.

They undertook the Continuing Professional Development training necessary to maintain their professional registrations. This included mandatory training in appropriate topics such as infection control and radiation protection, as well as training in topics specific to the services provided.

The clinic had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who use the service and others.
