15th July 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During our visit to we met with the provider, Dr Michael Bellew. We spoke with the receptionist and the dental nurse. We spoke with four patients during our visit and made contact with a further patient after our visit. We looked at seven patient records.

All of the patients we spoke with were happy with the dental treatment they received. One patient told us “I have been with the practice for 22 years now and have always been pleased with the service”. Another said “I have no problems at all”.

Patients understood the treatment options available to them and were offered a choice. One patient said “He’s [the dentist] explained exactly what’s required if I want to do it. He’s never pushy. He says ‘if you want a bridge let me know’”

Patients we spoke with told us the practice was always clean. The practice operated processes, and followed procedures, that minimised the risk and spread of infection because current guidelines were followed.

Staff told us they were supported to carry out their roles. One said “It’s a lovely practice. If there’s a problem I speak to Mike [Dr Bellew] and he will sort things out straight away”. We saw that staff received training specific to their job.

The practice had systems in place to seek and act on patient feedback and carried out audits to monitor clinical quality.
