11th April 2014 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

On our inspection of 12 November 2013 we found that the provider had not made suitable arrangements for safeguarding people who use the service from abuse. We also found that improvements were required with regard to the safety, availability and suitability of equipment.

The provider wrote to us on 17 January 2014 to inform us that staff had completed training in safeguarding children and adults and that the equipment identified during our inspection on 12 November 2013 had now been serviced or tested.

During this inspection we reviewed the progress the provider had made to meet essential standards in safeguarding people who use services from abuse, and the safety and suitability of dental equipment. We saw staff records which indicted staff had received training in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. We were also provided with service records as evidence of the servicing and maintenance of dental equipment.

12th November 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We found the practice to be welcoming and friendly and one patient described it as, "A family atmosphere". The staff were familiar with the patients and treated them with respect at all times. One patient told us, "I have no hesitation in recommending the practice to other people".

We saw that patients had expressed their views with regards to the opening times of the practice and the provider had taken these comments into account.

Patients were made fully aware of the different treatment options open to them and also of the costs involved before making any decisions. Patients were able to choose an appointment time that suited their needs.

We found that effective infection control procedures were in place but the cleaning mops were not stored in a manner that could prevent cross contamination. We also found that the provider had not taken appropriate steps to ensure that people were safeguarded from the risk of abuse. Staff were aware of how to deal with safeguarding issues but we did not see an effective policy and were not assured that all of the staff had received appropriate training.

The provider had also not ensured that all of the equipment used was maintained in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines.

Personal data was collected from patients and we found this was accurate, up to date and fit for purpose and was stored securely and appropriately.
