10th December 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We met with the dentist and one dental nurse, spoke with three people and looked at records for six people. The dentist told us the dental practice provided services for people who paid privately. The service did not provide any NHS treatments and the practice did not receive NHS funding.

We found before treatment was carried out people’s treatment plans were discussed with them. We saw in the six records we inspected, people’s treatment was discussed and documented at each visit.

We spoke with three people who attended for treatment. They all told us their treatment was explained and discussed with them and they signed a form to confirm their medical history. People told us when the dentist carried out any treatment he discussed this fully and involved them in what took place. One patient told us: “he talks to you all the time and explains what he’s doing”.

We found there were appropriate safeguarding procedures in place and staff knew how to ensure vulnerable people were safe from possible abuse.

We found some staff had not been subject to a robust vetting procedure prior to employment at the practice.

People we spoke with knew what they should do if they had a complaint and we saw the complaints procedure was displayed in the waiting area.
