9th July 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We visited unannounced and spoke with the manager, staff and people who stayed at Hertford House. We looked at records and observed interactions in the home. The manager told us the average stay at Hertford house was 8-14 months. They told us the briefest stay was three weeks and the longest had been two years.

There were seven people at the home when we visited. Two people were on holiday and one person was on leave. There were three nurses on duty, together with a healthcare assistant, the manager and a domestic assistant. Three doctors were also present, completing ward rounds. We spoke with two staff and the manager at length. All were positive and enthusiastic about the service. We spoke with five of the people who lived at Hertford House. They were all positive about the service and the staff. Comments made to us included “No problems here” and “Staff really helpful.”

People were calm, relaxed and comfortable with their surroundings and talked of the progress they were making.
