Independent Histopathology Services does not provide services directly to patients but there was feedback from the doctors who used the service which showed that most were satisfied with the service.

The service was accredited by Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Ltd (CPA) to provide the histology and cytology service. The service followed the published standards and guidance of CPA. We saw there were systems in place to ensure specimens were received, processed and reported upon for the correct person and results were reported to the doctor making the request.

There were systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection and staff were observed to use appropriate personal protective equipment. Equipment was regularly serviced and maintained to ensure it operated effectively. We found there were sufficient staff to provide the service and records were available and retained in accordance with legislation.
