17th June 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During and after our visit we spoke with patients who received dental care from Iosis. People we spoke with said that their dentist explained the treatment they needed in a way they could understand. One patient told us that their dentist had taken the time to reassure their child before an examination and that he had explained things in a way the child could understand.

As part of their NHS contract the service provides mobile dental services to villages in the area surrounding Winchester. The practice had two mobile dental units (MDUs); one providing dental examinations and the other providing the full range of dental treatment. The practice also had a number of appointments reserved each day for dental emergencies which are referred to them from the dental helpline. This meant that the practice was able to meet the treatment needs of their patients and provide emergency care for people in Winchester and the surrounding villages.

We saw that at this practice there were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. Staff explained accurately the processes and procedures in place to decontaminate instruments.

The practice regularly sought feedback from their patients. Following each appointment the service emailed their patient to ask them for feedback on their patient experience. This meant that any issues could be addressed promptly.
