30th April 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

At the time of our inspection the staff team at the practice consisted of one dentist, one practice manager, two dental assistants and a hygienist who worked there on a part time basis. We observed that the facilities were clean and tidy and that the environment was well maintained. There were two surgeries located at the practice, one on each floor. We were told that the ground floor surgery was used by the hygienist and to treat people who required the use of a wheelchair if required.

Records sampled demonstrated at each visit general health details and medications were updated, soft tissue and palette examinations were noted.

We spoke with three patients during the inspection who all spoke positively about their experiences each time they had visited the practice. Comments included: "I’ve been coming here for a long time now and everything is fine” and “It’s easy to book an appointment here. They (the staff) are good at fitting me in if I’m ever in any pain” and “They ask me about any medication I’m taking before they get started”.

The practice had effective systems in place to monitor the quality of the service provided. Audits were undertaken on a regular basis and included monitoring of x-ray machines, cleanliness, radiography and patient care.

We found the practice had several systems in place in order to gain feedback on the service. These included the use of an annual survey and a compliments and complaints mailbox in the reception area.
